NANS protests Edo varsity 300% tuition hike

 National Association of Nigerian Students on Friday protested against the 300 per cent hike in school fees at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State. The students national body, while at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, demanded the reversal of the increase and the sacking of the acting vice chancellor of the university, Prof Sonnie Adagbonyin. NANS Vice President, Intercampus Affairs, Vanessa Egheahie, said the state government should revert to the old fees or NANS would move its headquarters to the institution to enforce the reversal. Egheahie said students from poor parents could not afford the new charges. She said the new charges meant law students would pay N741,500 as against N185,000 while medical science students would pay N638,000 as against N216,000. Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUSOK) has announced the third extension of registration for returning students of the 2022/2023 academic session. 21 private varsities to get NUC licence

 The National Universities Commission will issue provisional licences to 21 new private universities on Friday. The NUC disclosed this in a notice on Thursday. The temporary licence is issued to newly-established universities while they are under probation. The PUNCH reports that Nigeria has witnessed an increase in the number of private universities. As of May 16, 2023, the Federal Government, under former President Muhammadu Buhari, approved the establishment of 37 new private universities, bringing the total number of private universities in the country to 148.    The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Wednesday, said it does not believe that there is anything called fuel subsidy in Nigeria. The academic union said Nigeria can’t be exporting crude oil for more than 70 years and still can’t refine crude oil and sell it to people at the Nigerian rate and not the dollar. The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has approved the rehabilitation of some facilities at the NYSC orientation camp, Ede to make the environment conducive for corp members posted to the state for their one year mandatory youth service who will undergo orientation course at the camp. UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA APPROVES POSTGRADUATE RESULTS

  The Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, has approved the results of 582 Postgraduate candidates recently considered and recommended to Senate by the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies. In a statement by the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Ukertor Gabriel Moti, this include 71 PhDs, 377 Masters and 134 Postgraduate Diplomas. The highlight of the result is that the University of Abuja Business School has its first set of 87 MBA graduates. The Dean also announced that the admission for the 2021/2022 Academic Session has been released. He urged applicants to check on the University of Abuja portal as registration was already in progress.

  An Alumni of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) Africa, Mr. Ubon Udoh has donated jerseys to the Female Basketball Team of the University and a pledge to revitalize the Basketball Court located at the sports center of the University. Mr. Ubon made the pledge when he served as a special guest of honor at a novelty match organized to celebrate the award-winning female Basketball team of the University, the Lunar Wolves. Mr. Ubon who until his sojourn to the corporate world was a professional Basketball player congratulated the Lunar Wolves on their successful outing and said that he followed all the teams’ matches during the NUGA Tournament in Lagos.
