These are hard times for students and parents, as they are now to pay more for their education following increase in fees by the nation’s federal and state universities. Many institutions have increased their fees by 100 to 200 per cent, which may force some indigent students out of school. Already, most federal and state universities have raised their fees, to cushion the effects of funding challenges in public institutions. They justified the hike on poor government funding of tertiary education and rising inflation in the country, which shot up to 22.4 per cent, the highest in 17 years, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). BREAKING: NECO releases common entrance result, six students score 01

  A total of six students scored 01 in the 202: National Common Entrance Examinations conducted by the National Examinations Council, NECO released. The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew Adejo, made this known while giving a breakdown of scores in Abuja on Wednesday. Adejo said, “A total of (72,865) pupils registered compared to 71,738 for 2022 with Lagos State having the highest number of 18,644 and Taraba with the lowest of 102. JAMB Reassures Candidates on Data Security as it Updates Website

  The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reassured its candidates on the security of their data following the recent update carried out on the examination body's website. It is reported that the reassurance is coming after some candidates expressed skepticism about the safety of their data on the Institution's website especially the O' level results uploaded. However, JAMB has swiftly moved to quell those fears stating that "the update carried out by the board did not reach result to any data loss on the CAPS platform.

UTME fraud: Innoson withdraws scholarship awarded to Mmesona

Following the report by the Commission of Inquiry established by the Anambra State Government confirming Mmesoma Ejikeme manipulated her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination result, Nigerian automobile manufacturer, Innoson Automobile Company has withdrawn the scholarship offered to her. This was made known by the Head of Corporate Communications and Affairs, Innoson Group, Cornel Osigwe, on Saturday. The PUNCH reports the eight-page report of the panel also recommended that Mmesoma immediately tender an unreserved written apology to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, the school (Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Uruagu Nnewi), and the state government and should undergo psychological counselling and therapy.  ANCOPPS laments unpaid salaries All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Schools has complained about the non-payment of salaries to their members. The national president, ANCOPPS, Mr Musa Ibrahim, lamented that teachers and principals were not paid salaries during the Buhari administration, adding that the stay-at-home, in the South-East, affected both teachers and learners adversely. He said, “During the Buhari administration, teachers generally, principals inclusive in some states had problems of non-payment of salaries. “A lot of our members were killed during the insurgency in the North-East, Central, and West. This had created serious concerns about our productivity.   The Nigeria Union of Teachers has described Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s allegation that the University and Tertiary Matriculation Examination result presented by Mmesoma Ejikeme is fake as disgraceful and embarrassing. The NUT National President, Mr Titus Amba, in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday, said for Mmesoma and other candidates to have access to upgrade and present fake UTME results showed that JAMB had not fully secured its systems and the process of conducting its exam. “It is quite unfortunate that this came up as a national issue, it is quite embarrassing. UTME fraud: JAMB bans Mmesoma for three years

  The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it has banned Anambra pupil, Mmesoma Ejikeme who was accused of forging her 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination result from taking the board’s examinations for three years. The board also insisted that the Anambra pupil forged her result adding that the board concluded high-level investigations before coming to the conclusion. The spokesperson of JAMB, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday. He said, “In the meantime, the management of the Board, after considering the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, and in line with its established procedures, has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and also barred her from sitting the Board’s examination for the next three years.  ASUU FAULTS FG OVER DISSOLUTION OF GOVERNING COUNCILS OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES  The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has faulted the decision of the Federal Government on the dissolution of the Governing Councils of all federal universities in the country. The union said that the move was inimical and a major setback toward the growth and development of university education in Nigeria. The Chairman of the University of Jos chapter of the union, Dr Chris Yilgwan, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Jos. NAN reports that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had on June 22, announced the dissolution of governing councils of all federal universities and boards of other agencies and parastatals in the country.
